Personal gift shopper or AI gift concierge?
A personal gift shopper is a person you pay to find and buy gifts for you, while an AI gift concierge like Gratos does the finding and buying in software and asks you to approve each gift. There is no Gratos fee right now, and we'll tell you before that changes; you pay the store's own price, tax and shipping.

What does a personal gift shopper do?
They learn about the people you buy for, find gifts, and often buy, wrap and send them. A gift-service co-founder told public radio station KMUW on 2025-12-23 that she started her service for people who "don't necessarily have the same passionate drive or savvy for gift shopping" (KMUW).
Some services work by membership. Occasion Station, for example, offered members a personal shopper "as many times as you would like" once they set up each recipient and a budget (Black Enterprise, 2017).
How much does a personal gift shopper cost?
It varies, and many don't publish their prices. Before you hire one, ask:
- Is it a flat fee, an hourly rate, a membership or a percentage of what they spend?
- Do they mark up the gifts, or pass on the store's price?
- Who pays for wrapping and shipping?
What does an AI gift concierge do differently?
It's available whenever you ask, and it keeps what you tell it. With Gratos:
- Each person has a page: dates, likes, dislikes, sizes and what never to send them.
- You ask in your own words, typed or spoken, and Gratos finds a gift from a real store.
- You see the full price before anything is bought, and you approve it.
- No markup. You pay the store's own price, tax and shipping. Gratos does not change the retailer's price (How Gratos buys).

When is a human shopper the better choice?
When you want things software doesn't do:
- Hand wrapping, hand delivery or a gift assembled from several places in person.
- Shopping outside the United States. Gratos is offered only in the US.
- A one-off, high-touch event, where you want someone to talk it through with you at length.
For the birthdays, anniversaries and thank-yous you send all year, an AI concierge does most of the work and leaves you one decision: approve.
Questions
- Does Gratos charge a fee?
No Gratos fee right now. We'll tell you before that changes. When fees begin, they will be $3.99 per order or a plan. See pricing.
- Is a person choosing my gifts at Gratos?
Gratos finds the gift in software. You make the decision: nothing is bought until you approve the exact total.
- Who ships the gift?
The store does. Gratos places the order on the store's own website, and the store ships it to the person.
- Does Gratos sell my information?
No. We do not sell your information, and we do not use your information or your recipients' information to train AI models.
