Apps that buy and send gifts for you (2026)
A handful of apps will actually buy a gift for you rather than only suggest one, and each buys in a different way: Perplexity and Amazon's shopping assistant can check out for you, Goody sends a gift to a phone number, and Gratos buys a gift for a person you name. Gratos buys from a real store only after you approve the exact total, and it keeps what it knows about your people for next time.

Why choose Gratos?
- You approve the exact total. Nothing is bought until you do, and if the store's total at checkout differs from what you approved by more than 3 cents, Gratos stops before paying.
- The address link. If you don't have their address, Gratos gives you a link to send them and they fill it in themselves. It's saved to that person, so the next gift can go to any supported store without asking again.
- It knows your people. Save each person's likes, dislikes, sizes, dates and the things never to send them ("no candles"). Gratos stores no allergies or health details.
- Real stores, at the store's price. Gifts come from supported stores, at the store's own checkout total, with no markup. Gifts from several stores need one approval and one payment step; each store charges separately.

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Amazon's assistant are broad shopping tools that do a great many things well. Goody and Gratos are built for gifts.
What makes buying a gift different from buying anything else?
Three things a general shopping assistant isn't built to hold:
- The person. What they like, what they avoid, their sizes, what you gave them last year.
- The date. A gift is for a birthday or an anniversary, and it has to arrive in time.
- The address. You often don't have it, and asking spoils the surprise.
An app that keeps those for you saves you explaining them again every time.
How does Gratos buy a gift?
- Ask for the gift the way you'd ask a friend: "a birthday gift for my sister under $60".
- Gratos finds it from real stores, using what's saved about the person, and shows you the full price: item, tax and shipping.
- You approve. Nothing is bought until you do.
- Gratos places the order on the store's own website, and the store ships it to them.
If the store's total at checkout differs from what you approved by more than 3 cents, Gratos stops before paying and nothing is charged (Terms, §3.5). Gratos never sees your card number. Your card is saved as a card-network token, and each purchase uses its own one-time cryptogram.
Is there an app that sends birthday gifts by itself?
We didn't find a current one for individuals.
- birthpay described itself as a way to "Schedule gifts to send automatically" on friends' birthdays (Product Hunt). The gift goes only after the recipient confirms their birthday in the app, and its App Store listing shows its last update on 2024-01-03 (App Store).
